A new team of developers, Commercial Simulation Solutions (CSS), is stepping into the Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) scene with their first project: a highly detailed rendition of the Boeing 737-500.
The team, composed of experienced developers, designers, and active pilots, brings expertise from working on real-world flight simulators used in professional pilot training.

Why the Boeing 737-500?
The Boeing 737-500, part of the “Classic” series of 737 aircraft, is a shorter and more efficient version of the 737-300.
First delivered to Southwest Airlines in 1990, it became a staple for major carriers such as Lufthansa, United Airlines, and Air France.
With 389 units produced before the last delivery in 1999 to All Nippon Airways, this aircraft offers a unique blend of history and hands-on flying appeal.
Despite its age, a few 737-500s remain operational in 2024, mostly serving cargo routes and smaller airlines in developing countries.
CSS believes this aircraft strikes the perfect balance between modern relevance and the enjoyable challenge of manual flying, making it an ideal entry point for its MSFS debut.
Development Progress
Work on the 737-500 add-on has been quietly underway for over a year.
While CSS has not provided a firm release date, the launch window is expected to be within the next 12 months.
Early previews have showcased rendered images of the cockpit and exterior and a technical demonstration of the system depth players can expect. Textures are still under development, and further updates on this aspect are anticipated in the coming months.

Future Plans and Subscription Model
CSS plans to expand by developing the rest of the Boeing 737 Classic series, 737-300 & 737-400, along with their cargo variants.
These will function as progressive upgrades rather than standalone purchases, allowing users to build their collections within the ecosystem.
Notably, CSS is introducing a subscription-based pricing model, a first in the flight simulation add-on market. The options include:
- Monthly Subscription: $5
- Annual Subscription: $50
- Lifetime Purchase: $120
This model enables users to try the aircraft affordably while supporting ongoing development and feature enhancements. Purchases will be managed through CSS’s custom installer, streamlining updates and compatibility.
A Work in Progress
As the 737-500 project evolves, CSS advises that all details are subject to change. Flight simulation enthusiasts can stay informed by joining their Discord server for the latest updates and announcements.
With its focus on quality and user-centric pricing, CSS is positioning itself as a promising new name in the MSFS development community.
